Soppong River Inn is a few hundred metres west (towards Mae Hong Son) from Soppong (Pang Mapha) market, bus station, Petrol station and 7/11. We enjoy one of the best (coolest) climates and cleanest environments in Thailand.

Take a minibus 4 hours from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station to Mae Hong Son via Pai and Soppong/Pang Mapha, GET OFF IN SOPPONG (Pang Mapha). It is a short walk (5 minutes towards Mae Hong Son…west) along the main road to Soppong River Inn. You can book minibus tickets online at premprachatransports.com/ticket-en/ For self-drive cars allow around 4-5 hours (with a few short stops) and small bikes up to 6 hours from Chiang Mai. You can also catch a bus from Mae Hong Son to Pang Mapha, less than 2 hours or from Pai to Pang Mapha, 1 hour. There are flights to MHS and Pai, and you can rent cheap bikes in Pai, then it is just an hour’s ride over the mountain on a good sealed road…check google maps.
Guests who rented motorbikes should take care on the mountain roads, especially in the wet season when it can be slippery in places. Cars or pickup trucks can be hired from companies like North Wheels, Budget, Journey etc. in Chiang Mai. Several guests have arrived by bicycle – some guests have ridden from Europe! There are many excellent ‘off road’ routes near us, see GT-Rider.com for all the best motorcycling info. You can buy a copy GT-Riders excellent Mae Hong Son Loop Map in Chiang Mai or Pai. One guy came from Pai on roller skates! (not recommended) During the dry season there is a 100km dirt road near the border, over 1600m high, north from Soppong to Pai: very serious off-road bikes only, fill up your tank and don’t go alone!
